    A guide to standards and facilities of caravan parks

    Travellers on a budget or families with kids can’t always afford to stay in a fancy hotel. So caravan parks are the key to a cheap and cheerful holiday.

    But they can vary widely in their facilities and standards, so how do you know which one is worth a visit?

    Luckily, the Caravan, RV and Accommodation Industry of Australia has devised a voluntary National Accreditation Program for caravan and tourist parks throughout Australia.

    Accreditation

    If a caravan park is accredited, you know they are commited to a quality service and a high level of customer service.

    Key features of accredited businesses

    • Accreditation provides consistency between states, territories and industries;
    • Committed to quality business practices and customer service;
    • Efficiency, sustainability, environmental management and ongoing improvement by park owners;
    • It offers assurance to consumers that the caravan park is a quality business;
    • Meets standards of security and safety.

    Standards

    To meet the Accommodation Standards, a caravan park has to meet a minimum standard of facilities and services.  These include communal bathroom facilities, a laundry, power, and garbage disposal. But outside these mimimum standards, there is a world of difference between a 5-star and a 1-star resort.

    5 Star

    The five star rating is the benchmark. You can expect your accommodation to offer excellent guest services and facilities including a pool, BBQ and recreational facilities of an "exceptional" standard.

    4 Star

    The four star rating indicates a well-appointed tourist park with a high standard of guest services and facilities including BBQ, pool and recreation room.

    3 Star

    The three star rating indicates a well appointed tourist park with a good range of guest services and facilities.

    2 Star

    The three star rating indicates a basic tourist park providing a simple but well maintained range of facilities

    1 Star

    A single star indicates a simple, no-frills style tourist park offering limited facilities for the self- sufficient traveller.
