Aluminium windows are a fairly recent innovation and have only been used routinely in homes since the 1980s. Before aluminium windows became common place, most windows were made of wood or of heavier metals or vinyls and required regular, and at times expensive, maintenance. Other windows could be heavier and could be difficult to open, especially if they had weathered at all.

Windows

Just for clarity’s sake, when talking about aluminium windows we are actually talking about aluminium window frames – they still contain good old fashioned glass. Aluminium windows are light weight and suit most buildings. They are manufactured in bulk to standard building sizes but can also be made to measure.

Styles

Aluminium windows can now be made in just about any size or shape. They can be made to look like old windows or can be made to suit modern dwellings. Aluminium windows can be made in all window styles including weight and pulley style, sash style, sliding style and tilt open style. You have an endless choice of colours and because they are light weight, are easier to install.

Advantages of Aluminium Windows

  • Well made and properly fitted aluminium windows reduce temperature loss. They don’t expand and contract like wooden windows.
  • Aluminium windows can be made as double glazed windows. This means they decrease the residence’s carbon footprint.
  • Aluminium doesn’t crack, expand, split or warp over time giving it a long life with better durability than timber.
  • You don’t need to paint aluminium windows like you do timber windows. Less maintenance means more savings over time.
  • These windows are affordable and quite often cheaper than other alternatives.
  • Unlike vinyl windows, aluminium windows are light weight and more easily installed, making them a better DIY choice.
  • You can choose the colour of your window frames. You can get your windows to match your garage door, or your guttering.
  • Aluminium is recycable, meaning even if you change your mind down the track, you can recycle them and be eco-friendly.
  • Most states now have energy rating requirements for new homes, aluminium windows can contribute towards this rating.
  • Aluminium is hardy to conditions and will prove to be rust resistant.

Aluminium windows can save you money from before installation through to the resale of your home. Cheaper to buy and often cheaper to install, they will save you money through lower energy bills and will be low maintenance for their lifetime. And then, when it comes to selling your home down the line, potential buyers will be attracted to your great windows for all the same reasons!
