Why is my icemaker not making any ice?
Index
Icemakers are standard features in most new refrigerators and many of us rely upon them regularly. But what happens if something goes wrong and they stop producing ice – do you need to call a fridge repair technician or can you fix it yourself?
Icemakers are a great convenience but they can also be the most troublesome part of a refrigerator. There are several ways that your icemaker can cause you grief, the main one being that it stops dispensing ice. This can be caused by low water pressure, the temperature of the freezer may be too low, the cooling fan or vent may be dysfunctional or the water pipe may be clogged or frozen solid. Additionally, an ice cube may be blocking the feeler arm’s detector motion or the heater that allows the ice cubes to warm up sufficiently to release from the mold may stuck in the ‘on’ position. All of these faults are simply fixed with right know how.
You can choose to tackle the problem yourself but you may only achieve a short term fix. If the problem continues, you should consider having an appliance repair person remove and replace the icemaker along with any associated components. Simply repairing a faulty icemaker may be a waste of your money and it may prove to be less expensive in the long run to simply replace the old unit with a new one.
If you are unsure about how to solve any appliance or electrical problem, the best approach is to seek professional advice from a qualified appliance or refrigerator repair technician.
