Travelling with children can be either fun and exciting, or a challenging experience. A little forethought and planning can make all the difference between a memorable and a forgettable holiday. Make sure the accommodation you book is suitable for the whole family. Some hotels are not child-friendly and may even actively discourage children staying with them. Here are some things to consider when staying at a hotel with children.
Hotel room type
Firstly, research the style of hotel rooms available. If your children are young it is preferable to find a hotel whichoffers family rooms or self-catering apartments where the whole family can be in close proximity. If your kids are a little older, interconnecting rooms can provide both privacy and security.
Children’s facilities
Many hotels cater especially for families and have a range of amenities including planned activities, kids clubs, babysitting services, children’s playgrounds and wading pools or special deals where children stay and eat for free when accompanied by an adult. Look for the children’s menu at the hotel restaurant. In-room DVD players and gaming consoles are also a great idea for keeping children entertained, and some hotels may even have gaming rooms.
