According to Ian, what is particularly popular at the moment is the sleeker look of square-armed sofas. "No one really wants the bigger, rounded arms that used to be everywhere," he says. "And in colours, right now it’s all brown, beige, black and sometimes a bit of red."

When it comes to the cost of furniture, Ian likens it to the length of a piece of string. "It’s so dependent on what you’re looking for and your lifestyle – if you have children or not, and your age." he says.

Just because you’re on a budget doesn’t mean that style is out of your reach. Popular looks at the moment include modular lounge suites and three-seater chaise lounges with one ‘longer’ side, which are also available at the affordable end of the scale.

Furniture packages are also a great way to get all of your living-room pieces at once, and offer a significant saving on purchasing individual items. The only drawback is the limitation of styles and colours available, as you won’t be able to freely mix and match.
