As with most products, the cost of your carpeting will depend on the quality and type of carpeting that you invest in. Even within products of the same material there can be drastic differences in price according to quality.
Fibre
In Australia, there are three main types of fibre used, wood, nylon and polypropylene. Many carpets are made up of a blend of these three. If you are unsure as to which carpet is best suited to your needs, consult the Australian Carpet Classification Scheme (ACCS).
Pile
There are many different piles available in Australia. These include tuft, looped, woven, carpet tile, bonded and flocked. Many carpets will have a combination of these piles as part of their construction. A varied pile can increase durability in carpet.
The cost of carpet will depend on the fabric and quality of what you want and how much you want of it. Don’t forget to include underlay and labour into your calculations and remember that some floorings are in metre lengths while others are calculated in square metres. If your budget is bigger than most, or if you have very specialised requirements for your carpeting, then you may want to explore the options of speciality carpets. Specialty carpets can be woven to order and allow maximum individuality, but are correspondingly pricey.
