When you engage a tradesperson you often have the option as to whether or not to supply the goods.
Ultimately the decision will need to be made by you and the tradesperson together. The same applies to brick masonry labourers.
Advantages
Some people like to supply their own materials because they feel that they can get a better deal and some people are fearful of mark-ups on the price of goods. If you are able to get a good deal for the goods then speak to your bricklayer about this option, they will need to agree.
Disadvantages
Tradespeople like to be able to ensure the quality of their work and this usually depends on the quality of the materials. If a tradesperson isn’t responsible for the sourcing and acquisition of their goods they may not be able to guarantee the quality of the work. This may be especially important for jobs in special terrains, such as an outdoor retaining wall.
Each tradesperson will be different so make sure that you ask the question up front and negotiate around the terms. Maybe they are happy for you to supply the goods if you buy them from an approved dealer or manufacturer.
